Question

Shared Rio Server

asked on October 10, 2016

I'm working with police departments for both a city and a county that have separate Rio systems. They'd like to be able to authenticate through Active Directory into a Laserfiche repository where both organizations would have access using Full User Licenses from both accounts. Can this be done or do they need to consolidate  Rio accounts?

A single Laserfiche Server can point to only one License Manager or Directory Server licensing site, which in turn can only have one master license. As such, you would not be able to use two separate Rio licenses with a single Laserfiche Server.

The same is true of Avante, in the sense that you can only use one Avante license for a single Server.

Rio licensing sites do support connections to multiple Active Directory servers, so at first glance, your suggestion of combining Rio installations is sound. I believe you could make use of the 9.2+ Directory Server feature, "Organizations", to divide up the user licenses between the city and the country.
