Question

Moving Directory Server to a new Server

asked on October 7, 2016

I need to move Directory Server to an entirely new Server and move the database to a new SQL Server.

I just want to confirm the process I think I will need to do the following:

1. Deactivate the Master License

2. Detach and move the database to the new SQL Server

3. Create a License Site on the new server Attaching the Database to the New Directory Server

4. Reactivate.

I am thinking I will need to renew all the Application licenses as they will not be aware of the new server?

You can attach it. LFDS will prompt you to reactivate it.

The applications look up the license manager based on the name in their license files. You could DNS alias the new server with the old server name. If the new license site name is the same as well, you shouldn't need to re-license your applications.

Thanks for the quick response.

So my previous steps would be accurate then?

I was hoping I could just attache the license site on the new server but obviously the hardware footprint will have changed.

Hi All,

Thanks for above steps.

Have concerns for Detach and Attach Database !!

Note: Database has been backup from Old and restored to new SQL Server.

In below how can we attach database ? (Can't find an option as guided in Administration guide)

Also is the need to detach database after deactivating master license !

We are using Laserfiche Rio 10.1.1

Finally ,

1. Deactivate. [On Old LFDS server]

2. Detach.    [On Old LFDS server]

3. Take SQL backup from old server and restore to new server . [Hope can be done for SQL 2012 to restore in SQL 2014 ]

[ After restore it should be detach from SQL Server Management ]

4. Use Same display name of old LFDS server (to avoid assigning license again) , new  SQL Server 2014 , restored database name [On New LFDS Server]

Got the error , as I wasn't sure how to detach database .

Hope above step no. 3 is Correct !! and proceed

Please Confirm for steps listed above , as will be for use in future .

Thanks
