Question

Is there a compression tool available for generated Pages for LF 10?

asked on October 2, 2016

Hi guys,

We need to "Generate Pages" from a mix of PDF and Word documents in order to compile multiple documents into a single document for a Board report.  The pages need to be in colour for the final report.  The reports range in size from 60-100 pages.

In all the testing I've done with different file formats via Snapshot, I'm ending up with a minimum size of 25 MB for a 60-page document if I save all Word documents as PDFs prior to upload to Laserfiche, through to 60 MB in size for the larger reports.  I've also tried reprocessing the documents with PhotoDocs and Import Agent but end up with the same results.

If they don't use Laserfiche for uploading/reviewing/compiling the reports, they can generate the final report (print to a printer, then scan to PDF) as a PDF under 10 MB.  They need Laserfiche for managing versions, controlling access to the originating documents and final reports, and making the reports available to Directors via the Laserfiche/Web Access clients as well as being able to email them a copy if required.  I'm a bit stumped as to how to make it workable for them (in terms of size of the final report) within Laserfiche without having to revert to printing out the 60-100 page report, scanning it to PDF, then uploading back into Laserfiche.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

You can lower the image resolution in the Snapshot printer configuration:

Thanks Robert, I was thinking of the 300 x 300 dpi for printing, but if draft resolution works for them we can probably come up with another approach for when they want printed versions for the Board meetings.  I'll test that today.  Thank you.

Hi again Robert, just to update, it got the report down to 17 MB but some of the table headings/formatting within the report are barely legible so it may not be acceptable for the Directors, however we will put it to them as a draft option with a higher resolution printed version for the Board meetings and see what they think.  Thanks again.
