Question

Test Restore

asked on August 12, 2016

We have a system that takes Hyper-V full machine backups. When I restore the backup of our laserfiche server and attempt to launch either the Laserfiche client or admin console with a non-active directory integrated admin account I get an error "No license has been allocated for this user. [9520]"

I am confident that the data from this backup is intact but I want to insure the Laserfiche/sql database relationship to the data is in good shape. I want to be able to launch the laserfiche client and browse the data. Any suggestions on how I can accomplish this. I can't find a way to "license" the admin account I am attempting to launch the client with.

Thank you,

Aaron

Aaron, we are using Laserfiche 10 and currently replicate our virtual Laserfiche server at machine level using Double-Take.  We have run into similar situation where the Laserfiche licensing has a mis-match with the machine fingerprint onto which we've replicated the Laserfiche environment.  I would suggest that you are probably experiencing a similar situation.

What we have been working with Laserfiche to do is the best-practice to re-license the server and Laserfiche components in our DR environment.

Please see the links below for some information that may be helpful to you.  The first is our original post regarding the need to run a test DR environment using our replicated Laserfiche server.

The second is the most recent pertaining to our use of DR licensing while keeping production running under our original licenses.

The third is one is helpful to describe the hardware fingerprint in DR

What we would ultimately like to obtain is a blueprint for handling Laserfiche in a virtual DR environment where the Laserfiche environment is fully replicated from production.  One that allows us to run at least two tests a year and to have a rock solid procedure to put into play during a real incident.

If you look in the Application Windows event log it should tell you if the server thinks it's not properly licensed and why.

Michelle, since you're running Rio, you can license both servers separately and only attach a copy of the repository when the first one goes down.

Aaron's case is different since according to our records, they're running a United server which only allows one server. The failed server would have to be manually deactivated before the new one can be activated.
