Web Access 10.1 -> PDF Import not converting to TIFF

asked on July 25, 2016 Show version history

First to note that my company is currently running 9.2. We are in the process of upgrading our systems to 10.1.

My company has some clients that have a very basic process. They log into Laserfiche Web Access, and upload their document (PDF format). I have the Import Dialog not shown, as we want this to be a simple a process as possible. With 9.2, I was able to have this hidden and have the files automatically convert to TIFF (not retaining the PDF file).

I can't seem to replicate this with Web Access 10. I did come across another post where this was mentioned, but it was noted that it had been fixed in 10.1 (which is what we are currently testing). The link is: HERE

I've taken a screen shot of the settings below.

Also, I noted that for the PDF's that are imported (as PDF's), they are saved to the "DEFAULT" repository rather than the "ROLLOVER" volume.

Is there a setting that I need to turn on within the Server configuration? Or have I missed something on the client side?

The "Process" feature right is required to generate pages on pdfs, that is why it is disabled in the desktop client.

Tiffs are generated for me when I import a PDF with "Always show import dialog" disabled (with all other settings matching the screenshot). I am using 10.1 Update 1.  When you check "Always show import dialog", does the import dialog Advanced section have a section for "Generate pages"? (see screenshot below):

Yes, "Generate Pages" is marked off, if I go through the Dialog.

Just to confirm...our Web Access version is 10.1.0.203. You mentioned something about Update1, does that mean it should be 10.1.1.etc..? Maybe the fix that I refered to above was provided in Update 1.

This is controlled by a trustee attribute [Settings]ImportPDFPages that the desktop client can change, but it isn't exposed in Web Access. Try re-enabling it through the desktop client:

You will need to delete this attribute from each user's trustee attributes to get everyone back to generating pages by default.

Oddly, I can see the options exist, but I am not able to modify this. The permission set hasn't changed for this user between 9.2 and 10.1

I logged in with my internal access, and I have the options available. But I can't mimic my internal access as I have a lot of additional permissions. The user in question has the "Import" right only.

Thanks. Did this change since 9.2? As mentioned this was a direct copy of our production environment, where this had been working until now.

Hi Cameron,

The underlying behavior (generate pages only if proper attribute is set) is the same as 9.2. However, we removed the checkbox for these settings in Options in an effort to simplify the Options page (since the same check boxes are in the Import Dialog). This is fine in most scenarios, but in configurations where the Import Dialog is hidden, this can cause confusion.

I've filed a bug report to add back the ability to set these import options in the Options page when the Import Dialog is hidden. The bug report id is SCR147182 for your reference. We'll look to improve this behavior in a future release.
