Question

What is the sync interval for LFDS to retrieve changes from Active Directory

asked on June 29, 2021

I would like to find out if there is a specific interval that LFDS checks Active Directory for updates to a user profile and attributes?

We have a scenario where a new email domain was created, and user AD profiles get updated with the new domain as their primary email. There is no other change to the AD profile, only the email gets updated.

On LFDS, I can see some of the users is updated and reflects the new email domain, but not all. I assume there is some polling that takes place, but would like to understand the frequency, if any or how that update mechanism works?

There is a setting in LFDS for AD Sync

Thank you for the above setting, but is that not relevant when you syncing the entire AD to Laserfiche? In other words, when all AD users have Laserfiche accounts? If yes, then this would not work for us, as we only grant cert users Laserfiche accounts.

Yes, the interval applies to AD sync. However, it is incorrect to say it requires all AD users to have Laserfiche accounts. Synchronization allows you to specify rules so only certain Active Directory groups of users are granted licenses.

AD users added into LFDS outside of group sync have their properties updated when they log in through LFDS (as Pieter mentioned below). It is recommended that you use domain groups and AD sync to simplify maintaining users.

My experience is that the email attribute gets updated the next time the user logs in, assuming they're using STS for login.
