Import agent not converting file properly

I am on Laserfiche 9.1

I have some users that use ScanSnap to create PDF files. These files are moved into Laserfiche via Import Agent.

Import agent converts them to images. When opened the pages are all black. Is there a fix for this problem?

Similarly I have a word document that was converted to a pdf before using import agent to import. It inserts stray characters into the document when import agent brings it into Laserfiche. This needs to be corrected can someone help?
