Question

Update Word Document

asked on June 9, 2016

My workflow performs an "Update Word Document" task which outputs a new document, converts to PDF. The Activity source is a Server attachment. I then email the PDF to certain users for printing BUT I also need to save the resulting PDF in the repository for another users records.

I'm not quite sure how to accomplish moving/copying the file to Laserfiche. Is this possible?

The resulting Word Document is an electronic document you can store to the repository using Create Entry and Attach Electronic Document.

For full steps you can check out the White Paper on the support site. Updating a Microsoft Word Document with Laserfiche Workflow.

Hey Chris,

Any chance you can show the steps taken to get it to produce a PDF in your email? Laserfiche does not have the greatest documentation on this feature (as of yet) and I've sifted through a dozen or so threads seeing the same hazy questions/answers.

This article: http://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/92753/How-to-Create-Dynamic-Document-Line-Items-Using-Laserfiche-10

Does not really tell a true tale as it's not as simple as 'check off the convert to pdf' and then you can attach the PDF in your email.

The other threads that speak of 'create entry, attach electronic document, update word - get you the word document in Word only since you have to use the radio button to overwrite the source document and therefore cannot use the check box to convert to PDF.

Appreciate any insight you have on this. Thank you!

Actually, it is (almost) that simple. Once you set the Update Word Document activity to create a PDF, you can attach it directly to an email. The only non-obvious thing is that since this is a file not a LF entry at this point, you need to change the attachment type from the default "entry" to "file". Then you'll see the Update Word activity as a source.
