Dynamic Fields with Multi-Table References?

Is there a way to make a dynamic field that uses "non-simple" binding?  The error I'm getting leads me to believe that what I'm trying to do below is possible, but that I have it configured incorrectly.  How can I use the value from Client Name to reference Account numbers from another table?

you will need to create a view with the related data then use the view for your external table reference. They only allow simple binding here.

I explained the problem to Lf engineers at 2015 Empower, and they agreed that you should be able to use multiple external references. They put it in the que for future release but I have not check lately with when to expect it.
