Webaccess pdf import and page rendering problems

asked on June 1, 2016

We're having some severe issues with WebAccess' ability to render a pdf accurately in the pdf viewer and it's ability to import and generate pages from a pdf.

All this is done with version 10.1 of WebAccess.

Below is an example of a pdf with out any pages displayed in the pdf viewer. Both samples are taken from the same document, but on different pages. The first one is from page 1, there are about 6 or so boxes and they all exhibit the same display abnormality. The second is from page two and appears how it should.

Sample 1:

Sample 2:

This next set of samples is the same document after generating the pages through WebAccess via the menu "More Actions > Advanced > Genereate Pages"

Sample 1:

Sample 2:

As you can see the checkboxes are not clear at all. This is creating a major problem for our HR department right now.

Next we have an example of WebAccess' import. We simply took a pdf form and dragged it onto a folder and let it perform the import. The first sample is what the form looks like in Adobe, the second Sample is the pages that were generated.

As a side note, performing the import with the desktop client worked properly and the paged were generated correctly.

This is a known issue that will be fixed in the upcoming hotfix.

Is there a time frame for that fix?

Pretty soon, in the next week or two. If you want something right away, you can try workaround 2 listed here: https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1013751. The specific steps are for the desktop Client, but you can use the same config file with Web Access by renaming it to WebAccessHelper.exe.config and placing it in the Web Access bin directory (usually Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\Web Files\bin).

Thanks, this helped with the page generation.

Will the hotfix also improve the rendering within the pdf viewer (what is used to view the electronic file of a pdf, or when there are no image pages attached to the pdf) of webaccess? This still has the same issue as highlighted in the very first example of my original post.

Basically the rendering does not accurately reflect the pdf.

The pdf viewer is a separate issue that isn't covered in our hotfix.  Web Access uses pdf.js as the viewer, which is what Firefox uses as its own PDF viewer. Does the problem pdf look ok when opened directly from firefox?

Ok, just tried that.

It exhibits the same rendering issues.

Is there any update on the hotfix?

This issue was resolved in 10.1 update 1, there is also a newer update 10.1 update 2.

I'm still having this issue

FYI, I had the same issue but not on all machines, and only for IE.  I found that setting "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" in Tools-Internet Options-Advanced fixed pdf rendering consistently.
