Question

User setting starting token values for Laserfiche Business Process

asked on May 29, 2016 Show version history

I am building a Laserfiche business process that the user can start from the Laseriche client. My question is, what is the best way to allow the user to set input values that the invoked business process workflow can use?

Example - User clicks business process button in client - user gives date range - business process workflow uses date range to alter how it interacts

It would be a tremendous enhancement to add the ability to require a user input when a business process is invoked , then the input could be used as a token in the workflow.

this would potentially eliminate many touch points in many business prosesses.

Does Laserfiche have this feature on the radar?

thanks

Milton

The only way a user can specify starting values for a business process is though field values. You can set the business process with metadata requirements so it will not start if the user has not specified all needed values, but, at this time there is no way to prompt the user for them after clicking the Start Business Process button.

Miruna,

I Continue to have situations where it would be a great enhancement to add a prompt for user input at the time a business Process is initiated.

While adding a Template filed value works in some situations, in many situations it does not.

for example if i want to start a business process on a master document for the purpose of putting a copy of this document into another location based on user input,

assigning a field value to the master document would not be correct, the value would only be relevant to the new document.

As it is we have accomplished this in a 2 step process -

Process 1:Create the copy in a temp location and add a new field to this copy

Process 2: Runs the Process to read the value of this new field and Route the Copy.

As this example shows it would be great to prompt the user for one or more values that could be used by Workflow to automate further so many processes.

I believe an enhancement line this would be heavily used.

Thanks for your consideration of this requested feature enhancement.

Kind Regards,

Milton K
