Question

Workflow - Update Word Document = "The given path's format is not supported"

asked on May 27, 2016

I'm trying to update a Word Doc which is a Workflow Server Attachment, but constantly get the following Workflow Terminated results:

I've tried using extremely simple .docx and .doc files, with and without tables or headers.

I can use the same Server Attachment in other ways in different workflows (i.e. Attach Electronic Document) which works fine.

Has anyone seen this issue before, and any ideas as to why I'm getting this message?

Thanks in advance.

What is your date format? If it's a standard MM/dd/yyyy, that would result in an invalid file name for Windows when WF tries to save the temporary file.

Can you show the properties of the Update Word Document activity?

Perfect - that's resolved it, thanks!

For anyone else reading this - you can add a separate workflow task using 'Rename Entry' rather than using the %(Date) token in the Update Word task in my examples above.
