Requirements to use Centera with Laserfiche

asked on May 26, 2016

Hello,

I read all the articles in the LF community about using Centera for Laserfiche Volumes, but I still have doubts, so I will expose my case here, in case that someone can help.

My prospect has an EMC Centera G4 - Governance storage with a capacity of 75 TB with the following details:
- EMC Centera (one system) with 75 TB – Governance
- Centera Open source licenses (RTU)
- 1 Bundled 4 nodes Centera GEN4LP 3TB Drives
- 2 Bundled 2 nodes Centera GEN4LP 3TB Drives
- 1 Assy Centera console software
- 4 EMC Centera Governance 2 – node right
- 4 RTU Centera Basic – Parity 2 – node right

I know that Centera is a "Content Addressable Storage (CAS)" and it could be used in Laserfiche if LF can access it with a "typical" network address (UNC Path). But I found in the Internet that :

"The Centera file system architecture eliminates directory structures, path names, and URL references to filenames, and only uses the C-Clip Content Address as a reference."

So it seems that the only way to access the files in Centera is using its SDK.

Is this right?

Has anyone successfully used Centera to host LF volumes?

If yes, what is needed to do the configuration of the volumes? I suppose that something should be done at the level of the server OS.

Thank you in advance and best regards,

There are third party solutions that can offer a UNC path for write and read access. The biggest issue with this sort of storage is not in it's regular use but when something breaks with indexing. If you ever need to reindex it will take quite a while since all of those individual text files will need to be read and it has a tendency to slam the system with traffic when this happens.

I've never worked with their solution but I was curious about your post and how their technology worked. Centera mentions this software on their webpage.  Hopefully there are others with more to contribute.    http://www.seven10storage.com/Products/storfirst-gateway.html
