Terminate Runaway Workflows

asked on May 19, 2016 Show version history

Hi All,

Is there a way to terminate runaway workflow instances other than through the designer? I have an instance where there is over 50,000 workflows running and the designer keeps timing out.

I can see there is a tasks option in the WF administration console also. But again that times out.

Cheers!

One thing I've done in the past is to go to the workflow in designer and disable the individual components, save it, and then republish.  When you do, it will tell you there are running instances and ask you if you want to update them.  Choose yes, and the workflows will have nothing left to do and terminate for you.

Hi,

Have you tried temporarily stopping Workflow subscriber service so designer won't time out while you terminate the workflows?

Hi Terri,

Yes subscriber is stopped, also all starting rules disabled. I think it's just the shear number of workflows. The search for active workflows got to 220,000 and then timed out. This will likely have to be done in SQL I'm guessing but would need LF to chime in on where and what to do.

Cheers though!
