Hi, all

With the ongoing development with offline features with Forms on Laserfiche mobile App, we’d like to know more about your use case regarding working with offline user task, and doing database lookup offline. Information about devices in use, concerns about security related to making db offline would be great to share too.

Feel free to discuss in this post, and also email to lfmobile@laserfiche.com. Your input will help gear our feature set. Based on various cases, we might follow up with you with user interview or study during the progress.

I'm not sure if Forms does this already when uploading an offline form, but it would be helpful to have it verify that the offline version of the form is a current version of the form.

Use case is that we could have someone download a form to the mobile device in the beginning of the month for an activity that occurs on a weekly basis, like equipment inspections.

This form should be downloaded at the time of use, but for convenience, the user chose to download it less frequently. When the form gets changed to add another piece of equipment, the offline version is out of synch. Once the user completes this offline version of the form and uploads it, it would be helpful to have forms point out the discrepancy, ask if the user wants to 'convert' the data to the new form, and requires that they update the offline version of the form or that forms deletes the offline version.

We do not currently have any DB lookups in forms that we are using in offline mode, but I could see this need in the future.

Hi Michelle or Steve,

Do you know if today latest forms got this functionality? "Download the forms to latter use it with online service to retake the database lookup fields?

Our use case is we have customers who work remotely that have no cell connection, so they want to complete for the form offline and save it as a draft, but then be able to perform the DB lookups once the device has been reconnected to the network before they submit it.

Currently, I can save the save the Offline form but the LF App will not allow me to interact with it again to update a field or complete DB lookup before continuing.

This would be very helpful when the Datasource cannot be uploaded onto the device

Offline database or assigned offline mobile forms

We have a use case in Local Government whereby the engineering and repair teams have to inspect and report on social housing units via Forms on Mobile.

Offline Forms is only allowing a 'Start' scenario as opposed to 'Assigned' so a database lookup for the social housing unit in question cannot be performed to prefill the Form.

Hi,

One thing is that we are planning to support the 'assigned' task in upcoming releases.

And as for your scenario, what will be the db lookup based on? and i guess the returned result are the information about the unit?

I'm wondering

how big is the table you plan to make offline on your device? And how many tables are related to that task?
how often is the db table being updated?
How often will the team member to able to access the forms server so that he can download new tasks and upload the finished ones?
How many tasks are there for each member on a daily basis?
What type of devices are going to be deployed? Is the device shared among team members and will there be security concerns if the table is made offline?
