Question

Import electronic document into quick fields session

asked on May 16, 2016

Currently when a user receives a document via email, they print out the document, scan it into a Quick Fields session.

Is there  a way to just save that document on desktop temporarily, import it into Quick Fields and process it the way a scanned document is normally processed?

You should be able to accomplish this, though the best way to do it will depend on what type of documents they are. Are they PDFs attached to emails? The emails themselves?

Why not use Snapshot to "print" the document directly to Laserfiche?

You could drag it from your email to the desktop or to Quick Fields' start folder, but I'm guessing your process depends on having image pages, not an electronic document.

It would more than likely by a PDF, that would be saved to the desktop from an email for now.

Using Snapshot would send the document straight to Laserfiche, but I would like to go through our Quick Fields process first, so that the metadata could be entered and Workflow kicked off to do it's thing.

If I send straight to LF, I would just have to create another workflow, which I am trying to avoid if possible.

You could have Snapshot send it to an "incoming" folder and then have Quick Fields pick them up from there through Capture Engine.

For PDFs, another alternative would be to use Universal Capture to capture straight from your computer into Quick Fields.
