Question

When will Forms support Windows Authentication?

asked on May 14, 2016 Show version history

Now that we are on 10.1, I still am not aware of a method that allows for Windows Authentication through Forms. Will this be added, and if so, where does it fall on the roadmap?

I am integrating Forms launched by a URL with certain parameters more and more in to other applications, and it breaks the immersion to have to stop and enter your username and password when that other application sends you to a Form.

As a follow up question to this, I have seen in the past that Forms Windows Authentication will be supported through Directory Services. Since Directory Services is not included in Avante, does that mean that Avante Forms users will never be able to use Windows Authentication through Forms? If so, I would like to request a reconsideration of this decision, even if it means there won't be a unified authentication token for Avante users across products.

Yes, in a domain setup, single sign-on with Windows authentication through Directory Service is a feature in Forms 10 and higher. As you mentioned above, Directory Service is currently only available for Rio.

Directory Services will be included with Avante in a upcoming release.

Thank you Karl. Will automatic authentication for Windows Accounts be supported for Forms as part of this?

Miruna, I cannot seem to figure out how to configure single sign on (pass-through or otherwise) for Forms in Rio. Is it currently possible to do so, and if so, can you link me to some instructions?

For a brand new install of Forms, see the help file. For an upgrade see KB 1013710.

Other things to note are that IE only does pass-through Windows authentication for intranet servers and an internal server in the machine.domain.extension format is considered an internet server unless specified in the list of local sites under IE options (in the security tab). If local sites are not configured, IE will prompt the user for credentials. The list of local sites can be pushed to all users through group policies.

Chrome follows IE settings. Firefox has its own settings to for pass-through Windows authentication. Edge does not support setting trusted sites at this time.
