Question

Combined Text Search in Field

asked on May 11, 2016

Hi,

User is storing Keywords in the a Field of an Template, and wanted to retrieve using Laserfiche Search based on the words type as combination, not respect of order of the Key words stored, Like Google\Outlook search.

For an Example: User stores "Test Results UAT Findings" in a single field. Then user wanted to Search with "Findings Test", so it could bring all the documents they indexed with word "Findings" and "Test" together.

I know it is possible using Advanced Search, but user is not willing to use that.

Is there anyway we can use Field\Basic search to get this result.

Starting in Laserfiche 9.1, administrators can choose to index specific fields, which will change a search within that field from an exact match search to a search that behaves like a document text search. This will allow the behavior you're asking for, where the order of the keywords within the field don't matter, as long as they are both present.

If you are not on 9.1 or higher, or don't want to index the field, your users could instead use the "Refine results" button and search first on one term, then again on the other. For example, they could search for *Findings*, then change the field value in the search from *Findings* to *Test*, and click "Refine results" instead of Search. Refine results searching within the exist results, allowing you to narrow your results., so this search will return all documents where the field has both values, but in any order with any words between.
