Question

Laserfiche Client Focus when Using LF Connector and .lfi Files

asked on May 5, 2016

Quick usability question...

Let's say that in Laserfiche Connector you build a profile that launches a Laserfiche thick client search.

When you trigger that profile (in the third-party program), it manipulates the thick client exactly as you intended, however it does so without giving the thick client focus on the user's machine, if the thick client was already open when the Connector profile was triggered.

In other words, let's say you have the thick client open, and you're working away. 10 minutes you later you switch over to your accounting program (so it now has focus on your machine) and you trigger a Laserfiche Connector profile. At this point, Connector does its thing, but the Laserfiche thick client stays minimized or out of focus -- the accounting program stays as the top-most window. This is the same behavior exhibited when working with .lfi files.

This seems to confuse users, because they expect to be automatically moved over to Laserfiche, as opposed to having to do the move manually. The focus is only switched if the Laserfiche thick client is not open prior to launching the Connector profile (or the .lfi).

Is there any way to change this behavior? Thanks guys!

You could customize the profile to always launch a new Client window after trigger the profile. Go to step OpenLFClient in the profile, and add attribute ShowInNewWindow, set it to true. When each time, after launch the profile, a new Client window will be opened. Please refer to this online help when editing the profile,  https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-us/administration/Default.htm#../Subsystems/Connector/Content/Editing-XML-Profiles.htm#Searchdisplayoptions

Thanks Juan! This is very helpful.

Is there any chance that something similar is available when double-clicking .lfi files?

How about to launch basic scanning? I tried to edit the profile and do the same sort of thing in the scanning section, but couldn't get it to do anything.
