Question

How do you want to open this file

asked on April 21, 2016 Show version history

Hi All,

I am currently running a Windows 10 test machine, with Laserfiche 9.2 and MS Office 2013.

I am receiving a "How do you want to open this file" prompt with any MS office document that does not have the file extension included in its name.

For example a document named "Spreadsheet" would cause this prompt to appear, however "Spreadsheet.xlsx" would open as expected.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

This is the last snag before we feel confident rolling Windows 10 out across our users.

Thanks

We have found a way to remedy this issue:

In the Laserfiche Client, go to Tools > Options > View > Open With and under the section "Open electronic documents by default using:" change the setting to use "The associated application" and with "Open files directly (using WebDAV)" unchecked.

How were these documents imported? There should be an extension property set on the document (There is an 'Extension' column in the folder browser), otherwise the client doesn't know the file type. It sounds like whatever is being used to import the documents is failing to set this property.
