Question

Laserfiche Connector 10 overwrite vs. new entry (x)

asked on April 21, 2016

When I'm using the connector to add documents to the repository, I can't find an option either in the wizard when setting up profiles or an existing XML tag that will allow the profile to overwrite an existing document when importing multiple times. I have users who may from time to time select the wrong document when importing. Rather than having them have to find and delete the document, I'd like to option to overwrite upon import. I've checked the connector profile and the options in the Laserfiche 10 client. I can't find anything that will let me overwrite the existing document, instead it creates a document with the same name and (#) after it where the number increases each time the same document is imported. Subsequent searches only return the first document because that's what matches the name in the program I'm importing from.

Any ideas or options to enable overwrite in either the client or the connector .xml file?

Hi Michael,

Yeah, you are correct. The overwrite tag was specifically written for a currently open laserfiche document, and the action on wizard is "Import documents or pages into currently open Laserfiche document" which can overwrite to existing page or put document under version control. You can refer to here. The attributes under "ImportDoc" does not take effective.

Thanks,

Qinmei

Hi Michael,

Connector has a number of possible advanced options you can set in the profile directly, all of which are documented here: https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/Connector/Content/Editing-XML-Profiles.htm. It looks like there's an option to overwrite pages within an already existing document, but I don't see one for the document as a whole. Why don't you try to paramater listed there (just to confirm it doesn't have a larger scope then what is documented), if not we can look into adding that in a future update to Connector.

Thanks Justin,

I went ahead and tried that. Unfortunately it looks like that overwrite tag was specifically written for a currently open laserfiche document (it's under the wrong stepdef tag). I put it under the ImportDoc tag, but it didn't end up overwriting the original. I'm going to try all the updates (new SP for laserfiche 10 this week) and see if the behavior changes or there are more options available.
