How can there be no "created by" user for a document?

Curious how this could happen? Any ideas?

Wonder if this happens when the user who created the document has been removed from the system?

Actually you can set this option in the admin console also:-

"No ownership will be assigned"

Fwiw, Document Owner shouldn't have anything to do with whether a user is in the 'created by' column. This just controls the default document owner for newly created documents.

The most likely reason is what Miruna noted below - that the documents predate when tracking the creator was implemented.

It also happens for documents created in older versions of Laserfiche before the creator was recorded.
