Registering external table to Template for Dynamic Field, SQL not on same server

Hi, 

How do you register the external Table on LF Admin when the SQL server is from an external server. 

I have the Instance Name, DB name, Table name and Sa account details.

External tables must be in the same SQL server instance that the Laserfiche server's database is attached to. Not sure why this is a limitation. It's in the Admin Guide here.

Is this something that 10.1 allows?

No. SQL supports linked servers to allow applications to pass through it to get data from other data sources.

I have linked another sql instance and then created a view on the local lf sql server instance from the linked instance. This I've used in admin console to attach the view as external table.
