Drafts never hit the process modeler, so short of querying the database directly, you can't find out how many drafts there are.

This is the main reason we stopped using this feature. It feels too much like it was developed as an afterthought. We use tasks instead of drafts now. That way you can look at the results page and filter by stage. (Unfortunately this only works for regular users.)
