Admin Console slow to open

Hi All,

 

Has anyone else noticed that the Laserfiche Admin console is getting slower and slower to open? Double clicked it and it took nearly a entire minute to open on my workstation today. It's pretty high spec so wouldn't expect it to be a hardware performance thing. I appreciate this is MMC based which is a Microsoft element, but other MMC applications open instantly.

 

Anyone else noticed this or have a fix for it?

I haven't seen this, and there shouldn't be any conflict between the admin console and the office plugin. Our internal testing machines have the entire LF suite installed and the admin console opens instantly for me.

Do you have any inaccessible servers registered? The admin console tries to connect to all registered servers when it first launches.

 

There was also a performance issue fixed in 9.2.1 SP2 & 10 Update 2, the admin console was making unnecessary security checks (137240)

Hi Robert,

 

The version is 10.0.0.900 (V10 Update 2) and there are 2 servers registered but both are accessible.....

 

This is just a general noticeable speed difference, seems as the versions go up of LF the longer it takes to load. Removed one server and now only one server registered but still takes 10-15 seconds after opening to appear.

Guess I just need to be more patient!

Hmm.. Looks like the bug fix I was referencing wasn't actually included in 10 update 2, but it doesn't affect the initial launch time anyway.  

On startup, the admin console connect to your server and logs in with windows authentication to determine if you are a system manager. It could be that this authentication is stalling for some reason. Is there any delay when you sign in to a LF repository using windows authentication?

No that's pretty instant. Also as a side note, this isn't isolated to our own install, I see this across customer sites too. Just wondering if anything could be done to speed it up?

Was there any update on this? I have a user who is experiencing a long delay when opening LF admin console as well.

I've had a strange update to this. If you install the office integration on a server, the admin console seems to take forever to open. Un-install this and it seems to open faster. Is there any update from LF on this on how to speed things up?

Interesting. Next time I witness serious lag I will get in touch. On my own workstation internally it takes 26 seconds to open with only 1 LF server registered but then takes around 12 seconds on the server and 8 seconds on our test server.

Hi Robert

We have this this exact problem with our production Rio environment. The admin client is taking 35 seconds to open. We have our 3 servers registered running 10.2.0 build 872 with 15 repos on each server.

Please open a support case so we can get the logs that will help diagnose the problem. From the windows client, go to Help->About->Tracing, enable LFSO tracing, then launch the desktop admin console. Those logs should capture the problem.

I have been experiencing this for 3 years, working across 100's of installs, both Dev and Production. There is a noticeable delay from the time you start the application to when you see the GUI display. It must have code that runs before displaying the GUI. Every install appears to have a different delay time. Some take extra long, others are instant.

I've noticed that when you have a server registration that can't be reached (e.g. the Laserfiche Server Service on that machine is stopped) there is a very noticeable delay - I'm guessing it must wait for the connection to timeout before displaying the Admin Console?

If you are seeing this with the latest 10.2.1 admin console (and all of your LF servers are accessible), we would appreciate it if you opened a support case and provided trace logs.

Just to add to this.  I have seen serious lag of about 50 seconds on my VM, running Windows 2012R2 from an SSD.  Turning of the UAC on the server has reduced it to about a 10 sec open time with no repositories configured.   Also this did not happen on my VM when I was running Avante.  I am now running RIO and it seemed to start with that change.

I just tested from a Rio Client and it opened instantly. I also have a UAC environment where it opens instantly (after confirming the UAC prompt). It is certainly not a performance issue, there is a wait and timeout function somewhere in the code.
