Question

Microsoft Word Headers & Footers OCR

asked on April 1, 2016

Can Laserfiche OCR the header and footer text of a Word document just through drag-and-drop?

If not, can it be done through Workflow?

Prospect I am looking at just wants to drop a Word document in and extract metadata from the header and/or footer.

You can use Snapshot. Snapshot will OCR both the header and footers.  If you need more things done to the document, after you use Snapshot, you can use Quickfields and Capture Engine to pick out both the header and footer areas of the document.

Okay so how can this be automated? The prospect just wants to drop the word document into a folder, and have Laserfiche do the rest. They want Laserfiche to read the header or footer information , extract the data, and populate fields. Also, snapshot or generating LF pages is fine, but they want the Word document to remain a Word document.

Hi Rick,

did you get an answer for this, I have a similar process to do and get the same issue?

Did you make it happen with a different way?

The prospect ended up not pursuing further so we didn't complete any solution. I think Raymond's solution would work, however to fully customize the solution you would have to figure out how to use a script in Workflow to create LF pages.
