Question

Workflow Appears as Business Process?

asked on March 31, 2016

Business Process highlighted below ‘appeared’ in the “Start Business Process” window for users:

Looking at the Rule manager it isn't a BP, but a workflow:

Looking at the Full List of BPs ‘Freight Quote Docs’ doesn’t appear.

Attempting to run the BP on a test file brings back an error

Why would this workflow suddenly appear as a BP?

How do I correct this so it doesn’t appear and confuse my users?

Can you open the details button in the message and copy the stack trace to the thread?

Can you open the workflow itself in the Designer?
If so, select the green arrow on top of the Workflow.  On the right side of the screen, look for "Business Process Options".
Is "Start this business process" checked?  If not, please check this setting and republish the WF then try again.

Start business process is checked:

This is only intended to be a workflow, not a business process.  The issue is that it is appearing as a BP to my users and is causing confusion.  I do not wish this workflow to be a BP or listed for my users to select.

Was "Make this Workflow a business process" checked or did you uncheck that recently?  Can you republish the workflow?

It has never been checked as a BP, was setup as a workflow to be kicked off on Entry Create or Entry Change with starting rule.

Republished the WF and no change

Have you tried to delete it from the Designer/Rule Manager?

I can't delete the workflow from Designer/Rule manager as the workflow is in use.  The BP doesn't appear is the list of BPs in Designer/Rule Manager, as per my pic above.

It only appears in the 'Start Business Process' window in client:

Can you try and export the workflow and then re-import it as a different name?  Or create a new Workflow and copy all the activities to it and publish under a new name?

Do all the clients see the WF as a Business Process including the LF client on the LF server?

Chris:

I want to keep the WF the same as we've been using it for about 12 months and it works well.  I'm just trying to get the BP removed from the list.  I'd also like to know the how/why this happened.

Raymond:

Yes, the WF appears as a BP across the clients; it just seems to be there, doesn't do anything, gives the above mentioned error.   I'm fine with the BP not working, I do not want it to work as a BP, just want it off the list.

A workaround which removed it from the list for me, (unsure if it remains anywhere else) was to re-publish it as a business process and configure the security so no one could see it or start it.

This removed it from being an available option on Clients.

I then unchecked the business process box and re-published again and deleted it from the WF server.

Below is the response I got from the support ticket:

Pick one client machine.
Uninstall it.
Delete the client folder and reinstall.
Turn UAC off, reboot
Temporarily remove the antivirus and reboot
Reinstall and apply https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1013588. Apply it to both the LF client and the server.
Test after.

I have not yet tried this.
