I am not aware of this functionality and think it would be extremely helpful.

In Windows when you remove the ‘inherit’ setting, it gives you the option to ‘Copy’ the existing permissions so that you’re then able to edit those and not have to rebuild them from scratch. That would be a wonderful feature request for sure.
