Question

Autoname in Laserfiche 10

asked on March 23, 2016

In Laserfiche 10, autoname for new documents was changed to have the Import profile section. While I do like this change, we have one client whose previous workflow was to right click in the Laserfiche browser and go to New Document. The new document would then be auto named based on username and date.

Is there a way to do this with the version 10 client? Currently, all names go in as New Document when created this way.

The option is under Tools > Options > Autoname within the client.  You will need to do this for each user.

Hi Tommy,

Do you get that prompt in Laserfiche 10 options? It looks like it was removed in version 10.

Hi John,

One alternative would be to create a business process in Workflow that creates a document and names it using the %(Initiator) and %(Date) tokens. Then just set a BP requirement where the entry type is a folder.

Then users can add the BP button to their Client toolbar. Would that be sufficient?

Hi Alex,

We will likely make a workflow that does this for them if the document name is "New Document*" on create event. I just wanted to see if this behavior was expected.

Thank you,

Hi John,

Yes, we consolidated the options in v10, to tie more into import profiles and remove generally unused items. Your new document scenario is a good point though, we'll see if it makes sense to bring it back. It wouldn't be in time for the next version though, so I'd still recommend the workflow for now.

In version 10.1 you will be able to use an import profile to get the same autoname functionality. Create an import profile with the document name and make it the default import profile:

There is a bug that prevents this from working in 10.0.

I'm trying to set this up for a user, but when I go to the Options menu, Autoname is not an option. Any ideas on how I can make that available?

Thanks,

Melissa

"Autoname" is the name of the import profile Robert created in his example. You can find Import Profiles in the Options dialog under New Documents\Import Profile.

Okay, thanks! I guess I was curious if the Autoname category in the Options menu still exists. I have it in mind, but the user I am trying to assist does not have it.

Oh, that Autoname. Are you running a version 9 Client? It's been replaced by Import Profiles in Laserfiche 10 when the functionality was expanded to allow for saving multiple configurations.

Ah, okay - that must be the difference. I'm still be on 9 and the new user must be on 10. Thanks for the clarification!!
