Question

An error occurred while testing the data source connection. See the error email or log for details. [LFF2400-DataSourceConnectionError]

asked on March 18, 2016

Hello,

When trying to connect to a new data source in Laserfiche Forms I get the following error message when clicking on the create button. An error occurred while testing the data source connection. See the error email or log for details. [LFF2400-DataSourceConnectionError] Prior to clicking on create, however, clicking the Test Connection button shows that it connects successfully.

I looked at the logs in Event Viewer for the Forms Server under Applications and Service Logs/LFForms, but didn't see anything show up there.

Has anyone experienced this error or have any suggestions to try?

Thanks,

Michael

The error log seems to be tracking now. I hadn't made any further changes, so I'm not sure why it wasn't in the first place.

We also resolved the initial issue with the database connection. Turns out it had to do with Windows 2008 compatibility mode. Once we turned that on for the database, we were able to connect just fine.

Thanks for sharing. The workaround now is to change the compatibility level for the database to SQL Server 2005 or above. In Forms 10.1, there will be no error when connect to a database with compatibility level is SQL Server 2000.

What type of data source are trying to connect to. If SQL, what version of SQL server?

Yes, it's SQL. SQL Server 2008 R2.

There's a known issue where if the database was upgraded from a previous version of SQL, creating a data source on it may fail. The team is working on a fix for Forms 10.1. Could you look in the Event Viewer under Application and Services Logs\LFForms and paste the entire message here so we can confirm that it is the same issue?

That's what I mentioned above. I went there, but there were no error messages showing up for this issue. In fact, looking in there now, it doesn't show any events in there since the 11th. That can't be right.

I restarted the server this morning, tried the connection again and got the same error. There's also nothing new showing up in the log LFForms.

For nothing showing up in the log LFForms, can you check following two things:

1. Whether there is error logged if you provide wrong password when login?

2. The Log Properties for the LFForms when maximum event log size is reached(right click on LFForms->Properties). Does it select "Overwrite events as needed"?

This has been fixed in Forms 10.0 update 2, you can download the update from https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/kbarticle.aspx?articleid=1013773
