Question

No permission to mobile upload "electronic documents", yet no problem with image files or other clients

asked on March 17, 2016

Hi,

We've just installed LF 10 with Mobile Server 10.0 and are testing connectivity from iPads/iPhones using the latest version of the LF Mobile client from the Apple App store.  We are able to connect to the repository, create folders and upload image files via the mobile client, yet if trying to upload a document e.g. a MS Word .docx file, we get the error "You do not have permission to upload the electronic document".  We are testing with accounts with full rights and privileges and have full functionality from both the full LF client as well as the web client, so aren't sure where the permission issue is occurring.  Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Mike

Please apply the Mobile update found in this kb https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1013727 and try again.

Hi Raymond,

The update enabled the document upload (.docx format), however we now get the following error on various MS Office documents - Word, Excel, or Powerpoint - when we try to view them, as well as some PDFs, yet not for all Office or PDF documents in that some of them display without any problem, so I'm not exactly sure how the error applies:

"License lacks feature activation required for the requested operation [9179]"

Is this something you are able to advise on?

Thanks,

Mike

So the original issue is resolved.
Do you get this message only on Mobile clients or any client machine, Mobile or otherwise?

It's only on Mobile, we've been testing both the full and web clients with no problems, it's just the mobile side of things that we've run into issues with.  Thanks!

From the mobile device, can you see if the issue is repository specific?  If it is, can you relicense the LF server? (unregister the LF server, register it back, then generate and save the license back into the LF Server folder).

Hi Raymond, thanks for continuing to respond!  :o)   I am unable to determine what the cause of the issue is as some .docx and .pdf files open fine, but the majority generate the 9179 error.  I have reregistered and relicensed the server and still get the error so I'll open a support ticket.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello all,

A case was opened with Support regarding this issue. It seems to be a bug (SCR 142155) which causes this when Laserfiche Mobile Server 10 Update 1 is in use with Starter Audit Trail. The workaround seems to be disabling audits of "Export and Print" events from the Administration Console > [Repository] > Auditing > Configuration.

Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

Just a quick note, there were two issues we encountered here, Raymond's response resolved the initial upload issue, and James's workaround resolved the "License feature" issue.  Thanks guys!
