Question

Laserfiche File Size Limit

asked on March 17, 2016

We are trying to import some very large PDFs into Laserfiche.  One is 1.1 GB (2297 pages) and the other is 1 GB (6638 pages).  We usually set the options to convert PDFs into Laserfiche pages, but we got "not enough storage" errors.  When we changed the options to keep the PDF format, they did go into Laserfiche, but it took a very long time and they take almost 10 minutes to open from Laserfiche.  Is there a size limit to what can be or should be imported into Laserfiche?  Any thoughts on how to work around the problem?

There is currently a 1GB size limit for generating pages from pdfs, due to limitations in a 3rd party component. We are looking to remove this limitation in a future release. Otherwise there should be no size limit. The fact that it takes 10 minutes to open the pdf is because the desktop client has to download the file locally to open it.

Not to misdirect the thread but are there any limitations on the spacial size of the pdf for generate pages to work? IE: If it's a large scale drawing, converted to pdf?

No, the only limitation should be the size of the pdf itself.

Thanks, Robert.  I had a feeling it was a size limit.  Removing the limitation in a future release should help.  In the meantime, we created a Word document with a hyperlink to the PDF file on our network and imported it as a Word file into Laserfiche in place of the PDF.  This allows the users to access the PDF while they are "in" Laserfiche without the long delay when opening it.

I guess another option would be to split the PDF into smaller chunks (under 1 GB), import the chunks into Laserfiche (letting it convert the PDF to TIFF) and then putting the chunks back together.  I haven't tried this option.  Do you think it would work?

Yes, splitting the pdf into smaller chunks should solve the problem.
