Question

Google search engine not totally working with weblink

asked on March 16, 2016

Hi,

I'm passing this on for my customer who's having some trouble getting the google search crawl to return a result set from items within WebLink. When they run a search for a value in WebLink, the proper document is returned, but if they run the same in the google search it doesn't return anything. If they type in Weblink then they get hits from WebLink, so we know they're talking. Please see screen shots, and let me know if I can provide any other information.

Thanks,

Brian

I can find that document in Google, just not using those search terms: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=backflow+landscaping+site:weblink.losgatosca.gov

Note that there is only one result and it's for page 7, whereas the words also appear on page 1, and page 1 is the only page where "1924" appears.  I would guess that Google hasn't indexed page 1.  You can use their web master tools to get some insight into this, and you can also look in your IIS logs for crawl attempts for that URL.

I don't recall exactly how WebLink makes crawlers aware of all of the different pages, I'll need to look at the code to see if there's anything relevant in the configuration.

Thanks for the info, Brian. Have you had a chance to look at the code?

Thanks,

Brian

Sorry, I forgot to report back.  The next/previous page links should be followable by a crawler, so if it gets to one page there's no reason it couldn't index all of the pages of the document.
