How "dynamic" are Dynamic Fields in metadata templates?

asked on March 11, 2016 Show version history

Does Laserfiche cache dynamic field data? I ask because we noticed that changes made to the tables/views are not reflected in the dropdown fields in Laserfiche. For example, if an item is added to the external table, it doesn't appear in the dropdown.

As it turns out my problem was different.  It was simply user error. I figured it out.

Are you using the [Settings]CacheFieldValues attribute as described in KB 1013198?

You can now use the [Settings]CacheFieldValues and [Settings]MaxDropDownLength trustee attributes to control drop-down list behavior for list fields and dynamic fields. Set [Settings]CacheFieldValues to Yes to turn on caching for list fields and dynamic fields to speed up list re-loading. Enabling this attribute will also configure the Client to only retrieve list fields and dynamic fields once per client instance...

Update is done in real time

posted on March 11, 2016

I have done the testing with Laserfiche Server 10 and it does reflect the changes in real time within the laserfiche Client. Important considerations , the changes done in the external tables will display in the Laserfiche Administration console if they have been saved, also they will be sort.

I am not aware of  any changes to this component , it should be the same as in version 9.2.1.

It can also be possible that the customer is retrieving data into the external table from a Database that is hosted in a different server , this can be possible if you Link the Servers in SQL Management Studio. Therefore there might be a delay in SQL updating the table.

Thanks Shule. The view is on the same server, but it pulls data from a different database instance. Will that still cause delays?

External tables must be under the Laserfiche database, correct? Or is that not a requirement anymore?
