From the LF 10 installation guide:

Recommended specifications:

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo or Athlon Phenom or more recent dual-core processor (at least 1.8 GHz); a 64-bit CP is required and the operating system must be an x64 version
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Operating system: Windows Server 2008 or later
  • Database engine: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Service Pack 4), Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (Service Pack 1), Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Oracle 11g (11.1.0.6+), Oracle 12c

Note: The Oracle server must be used with a supported Oracle client, and the Oracle client and the corresponding version of Oracle Data Access Components must be installed on the computer hosting the Laserfiche Server. Laserfiche supports Oracle client 11.2.0.3 and later, and Oracle client 12.1.0.2 and later.

Note: For Microsoft SQL Server requirements, see Microsoft's SQL Server home page (http://www.microsoft.com/sql). For Oracle Server requirements, see Oracle documentation or Oracle's website (http://www.oracle.com/).

  • Web Server: IIS 7 or higher (required for Audit Trail Web Reporting only)
  • Browser (Laserfiche Audit Trail Web Reporting): Internet Explorer 7 or later, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari

Seems like it's pretty much identical to 9.

Paul,

I should have asked what versions of Microsoft Server and Microsoft SQL were used to QA Laserfiche 10.  I have had an issue where we used the newest versions of both packages and then had to move a version back because of bugs.

Do you know if these versions were used?

  • Microsoft Server 2012
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014

Thank you

I'm not certain what versions Laserfiche used to QA, but I have personally implemented many repositories using MS Server 2012 and SQL 2014 without any issues that I have seen.  What kinds of bugs are you seeing?

Hmmm.  I believe the hardware specs for R10 should be re-evaluated and re-baselined.  I work with 3 other technical sales engineers in our division and since we upgraded our VMs from 9.2 to 10, we have noticed performance being slower. Would be interested in knowing what the ideal hardware specs are for both client and server.

Avante installer for United Customer - Issues during install.

The SQL pop-ups do not work.  An error message says you don't  have SQL 2008 installed.

The installer could not have been tested with the most recent versions of SQL and Server.  If you type in the correct information it seems to work.

Will keep the post updated with any other issues.

Hi Sharon,

This issue doesn't neccessarily have to do with the version of SQL Server you have installed. It's a better standard error, usually having to do with authentication. One common scenario is that the user the Laserfiche Server service is running on not having rights to perform the lookup. It only impacts the lookup itself, which is why you can type the values in normally.

Justin,

Appreciated your post.  We checked the LF Services and there were two different users on install.  The tech director decided to add a new admin user called LFService and make sure that it has appropriate access to SQL and all the servers where various modules and Laserfiche files are stored.

Thanks again.

Justin, Just a followup.  Would this also cause the installer give the error message about needing to install 2008 SQL?

Thanks.

Hi Sharon,

The installation package should not need to install SQL 2008 itself. It installs the SQL Native Client tools, which it used to do the SQL lookup. I believe that's avaliable through this package online https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27596 if you are encountering issues. I believe that's only critical for the lookup though.

Justin,

So even though the Server has SQL 2012 and SQL Server 2012 Native Client Tools installed, Laserfiche 10 can't use the 2012 version of Client Tools and installs SQL Server 2008 Native Client Tools since they don't exist on the server?

I have seen this issue with Avante for SQL Express. It won't connect to a full SQL instance and only works with SQL Express.
