Feature Request - Name Lookup Rules for ease of identification

asked on February 22, 2016

Hi I have a form , relatively complex in the back end that is doing a lot of lookups to SQL Tables.

As there is a section within the form that is repeated multiple times the field names have to be used repeatedly. ( i.e ) 13 Field names are repeated multiple times within the form ( all with Unique variables for identification purposes )

2 x Feature requests would be:

1- Allow Lookup Rules by Variable Name - This would be far easier to identify as the field names are repeated

2- Be able to Name the Lookup Rule - I.e Tag the rule with its own Identification name to be able to separate these rules if/when troubleshooting and for ID Purposes.

Thanks

Dave :)

Hi there,

For your first request, if we display the variable name if there're duplicate field names. Will this solution work for you?

That would be great!  is this easily done ?

Identifying these at present is a nightmare and I don't want to have to insert a unique identifier in the field name itself, that would be the undesired last resort.

Hi there,

The enhancement will be available in the upcoming release of Forms in 2 months.

Abby,

From a consistency perspective, it might be helpful to have both.

e.g. Field Name (Variable Name)

This could provide some issue in the drop-down list due to width requirements though. The other alternative I could think of would be to possibly show the variable name in a tool-tip or somewhere else equally accessible.

My only fear with this feature is running into something along the lines of:

Field Name: Date

Variable Name: Life_Insurance_Date

It's important that we not spend time guessing whether we need to look under 'D' or 'L' in the drop-down list for the above scenario.

For duplicate fields, it will have both Field Name (Variable Name).
