Question

Having a form obtain information from a previous submitted form?

asked on February 16, 2016 Show version history

Hi All,

Query in LF Forms.

We have a client that has Laserfiche Forms. What they use them for is basically for Technicians when they go see clients to enter information / data.

What the client requests is the following:

Based on the data entered in the first form, can we obtain some of that data and pre populate a second form so it makes it easier for the technician rather then having them enter the information again (doubling up). Basically we are trying to set technicians to fill in a form everytime they visit a customer. Once they have finished their work for the day, they open the second form to make sure that the times entered are correct and submit.

Please advise? Can we do this directly from Forms? or do we need to get workflow involved?

thank you

Regards

Ziad

In v9.2.1 or v10, you can both get value from Forms submission in Workflow;

In v10, you can also pass value to Forms by starting a new submission in Workflow, or use Workflow service task in Forms and then modify Forms values.

But the feature is not there in 9.2.1 so I have no idea.

Yes we can do this directly in Forms.

If the field stays unchanged, you can simply go to the second form, open variables panel and click to add the fields from first form. The value filled in the first form will show as default value when open the second form.

Or if you want the field to be different, you can edit your second form, on the field that you want data from first form to show, open the "insert variables" menu for default value like this:

Choose the variables of fields from the first form.

The value of variables will fill this field when you open the second form.

Hi Rui,

Hope all is well,

Thanks for the response, can we confirm, is this process going to pass the variables from one form to another within the same process? or to different processes?

thank you in advance,

For the methods in my comment above, it has to be the same process.

If you want values to pass to a different process, you can use Workflow service task. (But the version need to be Workflow 10 and Forms 10)

Hi Rui,

Can you please elaborate on your comment above for passing the values to a different business process? How can you do it if both versions are not v10?

Our environment is currently running forms 9.2.1 and workflow 9.2.1
