Question

Import Emails

asked on February 12, 2016

With Laserfiche 10, can drag and drop emails and populate the metadata in the template on the fly. With Web Access 10, it seems to only do this if there is a Default Template under the Import Email in the Options -> New Documents.

This seems to mess up having the template selected by the folder. Is there a way to get the emails metadata in the template without having a Default Template under the Import Email option?

Ah, I see what you mean - it's not that you couldn't manually do it, it's that you have other templates (besides the default one) already pre-set up with email mapping and if you switch to one of those, Web Access is losing that. That makes sense and sounds like an unintentional omission. I'll talk to the team and see about getting that working in the next update.

Updated: Ah, and you also can only pick one template when configuring it in user options. So looks like there are two issues to address here. Thanks for passing this along and we'll take care of it.

Did not see this mentioned in the 10.1 Release Notes (https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1013760) or the List of Changes (https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1013761) and was curious if this was fixed in 10.1.

Yes, it looks like this has been fixed in 10.1. (reference #140412)

Looks like it does allow me to have the email data go across the different templates, but it appears that it knocked out having the template assign based on the folder.

Is there a way to have it still set the template based on the folder with the email information being dragged into Web Access from Outlook?

Hi Michael,

Can you clarify what you mean by 'can't populate metadata on the fly'? You can manually update field values when you drag/drop into Web Access as well.

I can have multiple templates each referencing the different metadata from the email. When switching the template, the metadata would switch fields it goes in. This happens in Laserfiche thick client and also in the thin client if I have a default template set up, but not if the default template is not set up.

Want to have the folder select the template rather than having a global template for all emails, which does not seem to work with populating the data.
