Question

Development of the Geolocation field

asked on February 10, 2016

Hi,

I was happy to see the introduction of the Geolocation field in LF 10 as we will be implementing LF into a specific aspect of the shipping industry. However after a discussion among our team, the field is not exactly what we need and we are curious to see if what we want can be implemented.

See attached the use of our Geolocation field currently in one of our LF Forms the coordinates are incorrect/not what we want and also see attached a highlighted screen shot from MarineTraffic.com (a vessel location website) which provides the information we are looking for.

We could easily implement a free text field where the individual can input the information themselves but surely the geolocation field can be amended further to meet our desired look?

Any update or oppportunity to have the above would be great!

Thanks

Christian

Hi there,

Thanks for your use case for an alternative format for geolocation. I'll bring it back to product team.

You will want to still use the Geolocation field to gather the latitude and longitude coordinates, but you will need to javaScript to then convert the latitude and longitude decimal values to Degrees Minutes and Seconds. An example of what I am referring to can be found on the FCC's website here. I a search on Google of how to possible accomplish the conversion using javaScript can be found here.
