Question

weblink administration console

asked on February 9, 2016

We have installed Weblink 9 and we are endeavoring to implement all the intricate pieces.  However, it seems that we do not have WebLink Administration Console after the installation.  How do we get that installed or where do we retrieve it?

Note: This would be to set up a public user to access only certain parts of the repository.

As I discussed below, there's nothing special about WebLink public user. You would create that user on the Laserfiche Server like all other users, setting up security and other settings on that user account. Then in the WebLink administration console, you would set that user account when configuring the virtual directory. Please see https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/weblink/9.0/en-US/WLA/WLAdmin.htm#Automatically_Log_In.htm in the documentation for more information.

On the Server, if you go to Start > All Programs > Laserfiche > Weblink. Can you find the "Weblink Administrators Utility"?

The "admin console" for Weblink is called the "Weblink Administrators Utility" and it is installed on the machine where you installed the Weblink server.  It is installed by default and is not an optional install.

How do you set up WebLink users?   It seems that the obvious answer would be thru the WebLink Administration Console (Weblink Administrators Utility) , but there is no where in the utility where you can add users?

Note that setting up what part of the repository that a public user can access doesn't actually happen through the WebLink administration utility. The user you've set up as the 'public user' is seen as just another user account by the Laserfiche Server for the purposes of defining security, so you'd just set up it's entry access rights through the desktop Client or Web Access as you would any other user in your orginaziation.

As to the WebLink administration utility itself, that's a desktop application (not web) that is installed on the machine that you installed the WebLink ser

When we upgraded to LF Directory Server 10.2 from License Manager, my public user account no longer worked.
The named user account for that repository was set up via LF Admin Console with named user set to False & Read-Only checked.

Now to use the account, Full-User account had to be selected (false no longer worked) but now we max out at 15 connections then get "connections exceeded" error.

The autologon points to a server with Dual Processor Public Portal & cpu has been checked.

How do I get the unlimted users to work for my public/read-only account again?

Hello Chuck,

You may need to update your license for your Laserfiche Server. If you refer to the KB here, we have changed how public portal licensing works. As a result, as it appears you upgraded recently, you will need to update your Laserfiche Server license(lf.licx file) to reflect these new changes as it is the LFS license file that contains the information regarding the public portal licensing.

Thanks...  This is good to know for when we upgrade our  Weblink to version 9 but does this also apply for version 8.0.2?

Hello Chuck,

Short answer: yes it does. It applies to all WebLink products.

Explanation: The change from the aforementioned KB  is a change in the actual license itself in which all WebLink products are affected. It changes  how LFS checks its license with LFDS. When you updated your master license during the upgrade to LFDS, it updated the component to observe the new format and making the old one no longer "valid". So when WebLink attempts to utilize the public portal licenses, it uses its old license from LFS to check against the newer LFDS license which will not match up. This is probably what you're observing now. As a result you won't be able to use your public portal licenses until you update your LFS license to observe the new changes.
