Question

large image import giving me trouble

asked on February 8, 2016

I have a client that has thousands of images that need to be OCR'ed. The problem I have is that every time I start it, it will start to fail after different periods of time. Sometimes it goes a while before it errors and other times it starts to do this after a couple hours. What is the best way to mitigate this issue so I can finish this image import.

Hi Lucas,

The easiest and quickest way to resolve this would be to setup and use Laserfiche distributed processing and have it OCR the documents.

Help files and setup instructions can be found here - https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-us/administration/Default.htm#../Subsystems/LFWorkflow/Content/Resources/Activities/Schedule_OCR.htm%3FTocPath%3DWorkflow|Workflow%2520Designer|Building%2520Workflows%2520and%2520Business%2520Processes|Activities|S-Z|Schedule%2520OCR|_____0

Having said that you are getting 6408 errors when OCRing. It would be worth figuring out why these documents can't be OCR'd. Are they photographs or images with no text?

Hope this helps! smileyyes

Thanks Chris. I kind of had a feeling that I just need to setup DCC. The problem with the actual documents is weird because the errors happen and I just restart the client and then I can OCR the same file that had the issue. Thats how I know its not the actually file itself. I will watch the process and it will be working and once it gets that first error, it will just error out on all the remaining files. Thats kind of what I'm worried will happen to the process if I have DCC setup. I guess there is no way to tell until I try it so ill let you know how it goes.

Would be interesting to see if you see the same problem when running the OCR from a different client. The issue could be isolated to one workstation.

I have also thought that so I had their IT run the OCR on a different workstation with the same result. Lots of errors after a certain period of time. I'm about to do a support ticket and see what they say. I have run large OCR projects before and not had this kind of trouble so I'm curious to see what Laserfiche says.
