Question

Windows could not start laserfiche server service on Local Computer.

asked on February 8, 2016

Hi all,

I am currently installing Laserfiche 10 on my Virtual Environment which is a Win Server 2012 R2. I have reached the post-requisites step of the Laserfiche Server installation. The services failed to be started. I have tried to start the LF Server service from the list of services but I am getting the following error message: 'Error: 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'. Please find attached screenshot.

Thanks to advise what is causing this issue and how to resolve same.

On Sheila's machine, this was caused by missing VC++ 14 run-time libraries.
It was addressed by applying the following Microsoft KB articles:

1. MS KB2919355 first (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355). This is a big update and requires a reboot.

2. Once was successfully applied KB2999226 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226) was applied to resolve the issue.

Do you know if there is an equivalent update that would need to be done for Windows 2008 R2? The KBs listed are for Windows 2012 R2.

I haven't done the upgrade yet. I was just wondering if you or anyone has come across an issue with 2008 R2 that would require a similar update.

See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145 for the minimum service pack requirements for the VC++ redistributable on Windows 2008 R2.

As a general rule, you'll want to install all Windows Updates, rebooting if required, before installing Laserfiche software. Laserfiche 10 includes the VC++ 14 redistributable as a pre-requisite, which does not install properly unless the machine is fairly up-to-date with Windows Updates.

What account is the LF server service using?
Are SQL and LF in the same machine?
Are the VC++ 14 run-time libraries installed?

A case was opened for this issue.  The thread will be updated with the results of the case when it is done.

Ran into the same problem with a fresh install of LF10 Rio . Server had all updates available through  windows update. Had to manually install KB2999226 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226) and then the LF services would start.

I wanted to follow up on this thread and see if there have been new developments. I ran into this issue once before and I was not able to resolve it.

Thanks,

Ran into this problem twice. One machine is Windows Server 2012 R2, the other one is Windows 8.1.

We were able to fix the problem by installing all the Windows updates available. After that, the service of Laserfiche Server is now running.

Just a quick note on this. The VC++ 14 runtme libraries on the Microsoft sites default to 2015 which threw errors. Installing the 2013 versions rectified this and install loaded.

VC++ 14 runtime was released in 2015, there is no 2013 version.

Sorry typo, yes that's correct. We had issues on the runtimes and installed the 2013 VC++ versions. This was before the correct Microsoft patches were applied to Server 2012.
