Question

Is it possible lo link repository documents with a button or annotation located in a document`s page?

asked on February 5, 2016 Show version history

We are trying to store DIAGRAMS in the laserfiche repository as PNG files (or another image format). What we want to do is to go from a specific part (region) of the image to another file in the repository. As if we could go through  all the levels of the diagram using weblink and every level will have it`s own metadata.

Considering that Links (Metadata) only appear in the Metadata Panel and we are trying to invoke another file from a region of the document`s page ... is there any way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can automate this process with the workflow activity "Generate WebLink URLs"  to generate the correct url path to the document and input the url into the "Add Sticky Note" activity.  For more information on workflow activities please see our help files online.

Hi Billy,

A good way to accomplish this is through the sticky note annotation.  You can add sticky notes anywhere on the diagram, and in each one you can input the Weblink (or Web Access) URL of the appropriate file.  Weblink will automatically number the sticky notes, and the Annotations pane will numerically list them and their contents. From there, users can click and load the file links.

Hi Wesley,

Thank you for answering, it`s a good way to accomplish what i`m trying to do, however I would like to know ... Is possible to attach a url shortcut to a .tiff document using a Workflow activity?. So when I click this attachment, it would take me to the same url in another tab without downloading the .url file.

I`ve done that, it works fine. My question is ... Can I do it using a web shortcut attached to the .tiff ? Just like when you have an shortcut icon in your desktop that belongs to a specific website.

The url could be any url, not just a repository document`s weblink (or webaccess) url.

Yes, that’ll work just fine. And feel free to try it out! One of the reasons we provide the VAR kit and LaserRepository is so you can test these things out and show them to your customers. If you don’t have access to the software, please let us or your territory manager know. Thanks!

Thanks Tanya, as I said before I have done that. I`m using the VAR kit and it helps a lot when trying new things. Thanks!
