Here's a quick list of things we'd like to be able to do using JS/CSS customizations in Web Access.

Hiding/showing metadata fields based on conditions

Use case: If the Invoice Amount entered is greater than $5,000, the Purchase Description field should appear directly underneath it. Otherwise, it should stay hidden. We implement this type of logic in Forms all the time, and it would be great to be able to do it inside the repository as well for Laserfiche metadata templates and fields.

Subscribing to real-time push notifications sent by Workflow

We developed a method to send real-time notifications to Forms from Workflow, and we would like to leverage that in Web Access as well. The problem is that part of the approach involves JavaScript code to subscribe to a websocket channel. Forms accommodates that easily, but with Web Access we would need to edit the View templates on the server and we'd rather not do that since they tend to break during upgrades.

Use case: The user selects a document and runs a business process, which terminates early due to a failing condition. We would like to push a message from Workflow to the Web Access interface to display the appropriate message to the user.

Color-coding document and folder icons based on conditions

Use case 1: Invoices that are eligible for the "Send for Approval" business process should have their icon shown in green. Others (i.e. those that are missing metadata) should be shown in red. This would be a better user experience than having the user select the documents, click "Start Business Process" and have certain business processes appear grayed out with no reason given.

Use case 2: Invoices that have been sitting in the "Awaiting Approval" folder for a while should be shown in ever-darkening shades of red. This would be easier than column sorting, which is difficult to configure for every user out of the box.

Changing the look-and-feel of the folder tree pane

The folder tree pane works better in the thick client since it has vertical lines that make it easy to distinguish subfolder levels and identify those on the same level. Web Access is missing those lines though, so we would like to be increase the padding-left multiplier of subfolders and/or add other visual cues.

"Hijacking" and changing the text of error messages

Being able to customize error messages on the server-side to make them more user-friendly is something I've asked for before, but we can also do that on the front-end if it's not high on the priority list. For example, instead of a curt/unfriendly "access denied" message, we want to be able to say "Oops! Looks like you do not have access to that document. If you believe you should, contact your IT helpdesk by clicking <here>."

Anyway, this list isn't exhaustive by any means. I can add more to it as I find the time.

These are all cool features, but I wouldn't call any of them CSS/JS customizations. they all require some level of backend support in WA.
