Question

Is there a way to import .par files?

asked on January 26, 2016

I have a customer that is wanting to do a mass import of documents. The two files that were given to them by another vendor are PAR and DMP. Is there a way to extract the metadata from these files or import them into Laserfiche?

A quick Google search doesn't bring up any relevant ECM hits for those file types.  Can you provide more information? i.e. the source application for both file types?

Disregard - A deeper search looks like those might be Oracle export files?

They are coming from a Linux box with an Oracle based database.

If indeed they are Oracle dump files I'm reading that it is a proprietary format and no direct way to convert/import into SQL.  (Although if you have access to an Oracle database I would think that you could re-import them to get a look at the table structures).

Other than that is there any way you have access to the original Oracle database to get the appropriate files exported into some type of file structure that SQL can import?

As an update I have confirmation that these file formats are coming from an Oracle DB export. I will get with the customer to see what the other vendor was using. Thanks for the assistance everyone.

If all you know is the file extension, it's hard to be sure what you really have.  One possibility is that you have Parchive files, which is just a container format like zip and which WinRAR should be able to open.  Presumably there would be a lot of other files packaged inside, and hopefully it's obvious what they all are and how they relate to each other.
