Sonicwall, Firewall and remote connection issues.

posted on January 26, 2016

I've got a customer who has stood up a server and is working great at his main location. However we cannot get remote sites to connect through the desktop client.

He's worked with SonicWall to make sure that ports 80, 5050, 5051 and  it's not helped. We've tried using both the DNS and IP addresses. they don't have SSL set up on the server.

Connecting to LF Web Access works just fine, and is on the same machine.

He mentioned this yesterday:

"

We contacted SonicWALL yesterday and had a packet sniffer running on the server. SonicWALL support verified traffic is getting back to the LF server in Sussex. However, it appears communications from the remote location are being dropped/broken from the server side. After the initial ACK the server side is sending back a FIN packet is sent finishing the connection. I’m not sure if it’s the server doing this or our Cisco router/firewall.

I have a call into our Cisco folks and I’m waiting to hear back, but I would be grateful if someone there in Support would like to look at this as we’re running out of time before our go-live. However, if worse comes to worse, they could utilize the Web interface until we get the problem solved."

Has anyone out there ever run into this issue?

I'm not sure why the folks with SonicWall didn't capture packets on the server side to run a DIFF between the two. I've tasked my customer to work with him or his cisco person on that today. I would suspect that finding the packets you want to go through on the server side is important to find out first, then sniff things on each end until you determine what's blocking it -- I know all that in theory but have never done so!
