Question

Client slow to index metadata

asked on January 22, 2016

Looking for help to figure out a customer issue.  I have a department with 4 users that drag and drop files into folders (up to 300 at a time).  All files have some different metadata so they import with no metadata then open each file and fill in the metadata.

This week some of them started experiencing a delay of 15-20 seconds between hitting save and having client actually save it (they see the spinning wheel).  But I can’t pinpoint to anything that is causing this.

Of the 4 users, not all of them are slow.  Some are slow one day but not the next.  Some are slow indexing in one folder but not in a different folder.  Some that are slow in one folder can have someone else access their files and the second person is not slow.

All documents among all the folders are pretty consistent in size.  We have checked network connections, server connections, user sessions and monitored server activity.

Examples:

Tuesday Person A and Person B are slow but Person C and Person D are not.  Wednesday Person A and Person C are slow but Person B and Person D are not even though they are working in the same folders they were the day before.

Person B indexes in folder B and it is slow but Person B indexes in folder A and it is not slow.

Person C indexes in folder C and it is slow but Person D indexes in folder C and it is not slow.

Person B indexes in folder B and it is slow and Person B logs on with Computer C and it is still slow.

Person D indexes in folder D in client and it is slow.  Person D indexes in folder D in web access and it is not slow.

Any anyone give me more ideas of what to look at?

Thanks!

This kind of performance issue is usually caused by SQL being overwhelmed. Please open a support case so we can get the trace logs needed to narrow down the problem

Thank you.  Since posting this, I have gotten a call from Matt and am sending him trace logs.

Thanks.

In addition to the trace logs , please make sure to provide the exact version of the laserfiche server, as well as sql version.  Copy of the application and system event log files in evtx format from the machine where Laserfiche Server is installed on.
