Creating A New Version From An Existing Document In The Client

asked on January 13, 2016

The feature I am looking for may not be available, but I figure I would ask if anyone has successfully achieved this deed anyway.

I know that I can upload a file from a network drive and create a new version of a document, but what if the document is already in the repository.  Is there a way to replace a document with a new version of a document that is already in the repository.

For example.  Document A is an unsigned contract and Document B is a signed contract.  Both documents are in the repository and I want to put Document A under version control and replace it with Document B.  Also those same lines, if this is possible, is there a way to automate this process using Workflow?

Another workaround you can use through the client or Web Access is that you could export Document B and then reimport it using 'upload as new version' on document A.

I have tested this out in the thick client. If the document B has the sender name as document A that is in the repository there will be a window that prompts to add as a new version. Given if the document does not have the same name you should be able to rename the document and then receive the same prompt. You may have to write a custom script to do this in workflow.
