Change Route to Entry

I changed the Route to Entry path on a workflow recently.  Existing files that were in the original workflow before the change seemed to go into the original path after the change.

Would this be due to the file during the change still holding the original path due to a wait condition?

If there are running workflow instances and you make a change to that workflow and republish, you will get prompted with

Instances of 'MyWorkflow' are currently running. Would you like to update them?

and if you click "Yes" then the change will apply to the existing instances as well. If you click "No" then the change will only apply to new instances.
