Save form to Repository as Landscape PDF

asked on January 5, 2016 Show version history

I have a form with a table with several different fields going across horizontally.  This makes the table look cluttered when saving a pdf file of the form to the repository.  I understand that saving the form to the repository in landscape format was previously not supported.  Is this still the case, or is there a way to save the pdf as landscape?

Hi Dane,

I've spoken with the Forms team and this feature request is on the to-do list! However, there is no estimated release date at this point.

In the meantime, there may be a few form settings you can modify to improve the appearance of the form. To help narrow the width of the fields, it's possible to set the field labels to reside above the fields rather than beside them. You can configure this in Form Settings under Labels. Another option would be to adjust the field width in each field's setting. Finally, adding CSS or JavaScript to the form will give you more extensive means of changing the layout.

Hi Dane,

To add to Marisa's answer, instead of using a "Save to Repository" task, you could start a Workflow configured to insert your Forms values into a landscape-oriented PDF or Word Document (using the Fill Out PDF Form or Update Word Document activities, respectively). This way, you would have more control over the document's appearance. You would need to create the template PDF/Word Doc, and the workflow would look something like this:

Hi,

In regards to the same question, I have a form that is wider than A$ due to the number of fields in the table. The table has over 40 fields and I have made the form so wide 4500pix. Now, the rows in the table are dynamic in the sense that you will not be able to know the number of rows a submission has. This can go upto hundreds. The question is how the workflow method  assist. I believe you will require a PDF template for workflow to write into. Am not aware of a PDF template that will support dynamic tables. Assist please

Hi Mark,

For tables that might have more rows than your template PDF, you can instead use the Update Word Document activity. When combined with the use of Mail Merge Regions, you can dynamically add rows to a table. Here is one way of going about this:

- Create Word Document template using Mail Merge fields and Regions:

- Create Workflow:

- Here is what the submitted Form looks like, and the resulting PDF in the repository:

Let me know if this works for you!
